﴾ For them therein is fruit, and for them is whatever they call for. ﴿
"For them therein is fruit": the fronting of "for them" confines the ownership to them, and this fruit is theirs purely and wholly, with none to dispute it with them. Fākiha (root f-k-h) is what is enjoyed in the eating of it, a savouring over and above what meets a need, so it is the mark of a bliss that exceeds bare sufficiency. They had been described before this as "delighting" (verse 55), and here they have "fruit": their state and their food correspond, so that those who are glad of soul have, among the kinds of enjoyment, what befits their gladness.
"And for them is whatever they call for" is a widening after the fruit that takes in everything desired. Yaddaʿūn (root d-ʿ-w) is in origin yadtaʿiūn, from calling and asking, that is, what they ask for and what they wish for. The indefiniteness of "whatever" opens the door without any limit: everything their souls call toward is attained for them. So their bliss is committed to their own desire, not shut inside a counted kind: what they wished for, they found. This is higher than any enumeration of blessings, that a person be handed the ownership of wishing itself, so that whatever crossed his mind came to be. So He gathered for them the specified, which is the fruit, and the unbounded, which is whatever they call for, the reaching of all that the soul asks for.
