﴾ And loosen a knot from my tongue, ﴿
This is a third request, joined by a wāw like the two before it, and this time it carries no lām: the verb falls on its object directly.
Loosening, in ḥ-l-l, is a holding that clings and is then released into extension: what was tied is undone and flows. Loosening is not cutting: what is cut loses its two ends, while what is loosened stays whole and the tightness has simply gone out of it.
So what is asked for is the return of a thing to what it was before it was drawn tight, not the bringing about of something new.
ʿUqdatan is an indefinite noun in the accusative, rather than "the knot" with the article or "my knots" in a possessive: one, and undefined.
A knot, in ʿ-q-d, is a grip that fuses and sets fast in the depth and then stays, that is, what has been drawn so tight that it will not come apart of itself. So it is a place in a thing, not a description of the whole thing.
The verse says a knot and adds nothing; it does not say when it was tied, nor out of what, nor how. Whoever reports its cause has reported something other than what is in the verse.
The preposition here is partitive: a knot from a tongue, not the whole tongue. Had the verse said "and loosen my tongue," the whole would have been what was asked for; min, however, cuts a portion out and leaves what remains where it is.
This is the first min in this prayer; the second will come a little later, in the request for a wazīr, and will do the very same work. It is one particle that cuts out of a whole twice.
The tongue, in l-s-n, is what extends and pierces through so as to bring out what is inside; from it comes the tongue of a balance, which makes the tilt plain. So what is drawn tight lies in the instrument of bringing out, and what is asked for is the loosening of one place in it. The prayer is still asking and still not saying why.
A third request, with no lām: the verb falls straight onto its object. "And loosen," from ḥ-l-l, is a holding that clings and is released into extension, an untying and not a cutting: what is untied stays whole and the tightness has gone out of it. "A knot" is one indefinite thing, given no article and no adjective; in ʿ-q-d it is a grip that fuses and then sets fast, a place in a thing and not a description of the whole thing. Min is partitive, cutting a portion out and leaving what lies behind it outside the request. The tongue, from l-s-n, is what extends and pierces through so as to bring out what is inside. So the verse names a knot and stops, with no when, no out of what, no how, and the emptiness it left is its own choosing, not a lack to be filled in from outside it.
