﴾ Indeed, this is truly the true account. There is no god but Allah. And indeed, Allah is truly the Mighty, the Wise. ﴿
Inna opens the sentence with emphasis, and "this" reaches back to the course already told, which has come near in the station of recitation. The lām and the separating pronoun huwa then come before the predicate, and the two of them keep it from passing as a description one might merely entertain. Account, from q-ṣ-ṣ, denotes a knot that runs penetrating along a course and is then gathered in again, so that its parts stay joined and do not slip out of their succession. "True," from ḥ-q-q, is a containing that knots into a deep coalescence, after which the repeated qāf cuts off its slipping away. So what has been told is an account whose structure holds firm, rather than a mere account.
The conjunction moves the speech from the quality of the account to the statement about deity. The structure begins with the negation; "any" then enters upon the indefinite noun and makes it cover every single member one might imagine within the class. Deity, from ʾ-l-h, is an intention cut toward a direction and attached to it, which then opens its breath there and flows. "But Allah" follows and settles that whole exhaustion with a single exception. The structure leaves no second direction standing at the margin of the sentence: the negation empties the field, and the exception fills it with the name the verse has spoken.
The conjunction takes up a second emphasis, with the difference that the name of Allah this time becomes the openly stated subject of inna. The lām and huwa return before "the Mighty," and the emphasis is layered as it was at the head of the verse. Might, from ʿ-z-z, is an emergence from depth that presses together and packs into an unassailable density, and the repeated letter then doubles the force of penetration and of edge. The faʿīl pattern establishes this unassailability as a rooted quality, not as a passing thrust. After every deity beside Him has been denied, the might keeps any weakness or any emptiness from being imagined inside the oneness.
The close joins "the Mighty" directly to "the Wise." In ḥ-k-m the space narrows around the meaning, the kāf holds it within, and the mīm then gathers its parts into a firm composition. The faʿīl pattern establishes this firmness, too, as a rooted quality beside the rooted unassailability, so that the two descriptions meet in a single name: a firm power and a powerful firmness. This pairing carries back to the true account, which leans upon an unassailable might and a firm composition.
The verse builds three sentences, the first and the last held by emphasis. In the first, what is told is fixed as a true account whose parts hold together; in the middle, the negation covers the whole class of deity, and the exception then settles it upon Allah; in the last, the name returns carried by the two qualities of might and wisdom. So the truth is joined to the oneness of its source, and then to that source's unassailable might and its firm composition, rather than remaining a mere quality of the speech. The succession moves out from the account to the deity, and from the name to two qualities that keep the firmness standing.
