﴾ and call You to mind, and much. ﴿
The verb is a second one, coordinated, and it takes its subjunctive from the particle standing in the verse before it: one particle of purpose works on two verbs and is not said again.
The nūn stays where it was: the plural that came out in the first verb is the one that now remembers, and the pronoun does not slip back into the singular once it has come out of it.
Remembering, in dh-k-r, is a sharp entry held shut in a place and then brought back out into the open. So it is the retrieval of a deposit, not the reception of a stranger.
So the two motions run in two directions under one purpose. The first is a passing through which nothing at all clings to the one who passes, the second a holding in the interior that is brought out again; one of them clears, and one of them recovers.
Neither of them stands in for the other: the first cleans the channel, and the second brings up through it what had been laid in store there, an emptying followed by a filling.
This same root has already appeared in this Surah as the reason given for a different command: "I, I am Allah. There is no god but I. So serve Me, and set the prayer upright for the remembrance of Me." There the setting-upright was hung on the remembering; here the remembering itself is what is asked to be much. A lām there and a kay here, and the thing tied by the two of them is one.
The wording would have allowed the two verbs to be said and then closed with a single kathīran coming back upon them both; instead, each verb was given its own measure.
So the quantity is neither divided between them nor reckoned for the two of them as a lump: much praising and much remembering, two counts, not one count parcelled out.
Whoever says a word over again when he could have let it be shared has meant the repetition, and the purpose on which six requests were hung comes out at two measures, not at one.
A second verb, coordinated and holding its subjunctive from the particle in the verse before, so that one particle of purpose works on two verbs and is not said again. The nūn stays: the plural that appeared in the first verb is the one that remembers. Remembering, from dh-k-r, is a sharp entry held shut in a place and then returned to the open, so it is the retrieval of a deposit and not the reception of a stranger. By this the two motions fall in two directions under one purpose: a passing from which nothing clings, then a bringing out of what had lodged in the interior before; a clearing, then a recovering. Kathīran was said again rather than shared, when it would have been sound to say it once for the two verbs. So each verb has its own measure, and the purpose on which six requests were hung ends at two measures and not at one.
﴾ et que nous Te rappelions, et beaucoup. ﴿
