﴾ It is yours, there, that you will not go hungry, and that you will not go bare. ﴿
A particle of emphasis opens the verse, then a preposition with its noun standing as the predicate, brought forward before the subject. So what is affirmed first is that the thing is his, and only then is it said what the thing is.
The preposition is one of ownership: what is mentioned after it is a thing owned within the place, not a description of the place.
The pronoun is singular. The verse before it had entered the singular at "so that you come to hardship," after a dual pronoun; so this is the second singular pronoun in a row, and the address does not come back to the two of them.
The particle is built from "that" and "not," and the one that makes verbal nouns binds what follows it into a verbal noun. So what is owned in the clause is the absence of hunger itself.
This is a place to be read. In place of "you have food there," the words state that not going hungry is his: he was given the denial, not the thing that lifts what is denied.
Hunger, in j-w-ʿ, is the emptying of a hollow and then its closing in upon its own emptiness: a narrowing that falls inside, not a thing met from outside.
"There" is an adverb of place referring back to the place named in the verse before. So the denial is bounded by it and is not made absolutely, in every place.
A joining follows that says the particle of negation again. So the two things denied are two and distinct, not two words for one meaning.
Bareness, in ʿ-r-y, is a thing standing forth with nothing to cover it; from the same root comes the open ground in which there is no screen.
So the first thing denied is a hollowness in the inside and the second an exposure on the surface, one of them within and the other without.
What lifts the first is food, and what lifts the second is clothing. So the two things denied are one pair, held together by this: what fills them is taken and worn.
The verse that follows gives a second pair upon this very shape, a lack in the hollow, then an exposure on the surface. Four denials stand in two verses, and they are two pairs, not four separate items.
A particle of emphasis opens the verse, then a predicate brought forward with the preposition of ownership: it is affirmed first that the thing is his and then it is said what the thing is, and what stands after the preposition is a thing owned, not a description of the place. The pronoun is singular, the second singular pronoun in a row after the verse before had entered the singular following a dual pronoun, so the address does not come back to the two of them. The particle then binds what follows it into a verbal noun, so what is owned is the absence of hunger itself: in place of a statement that he has food there, he was given the denial, not the thing that lifts it. Hunger, in j-w-ʿ, is the emptying of a hollow and then its closing in upon its own emptiness, a narrowing that falls inside, not a thing met from outside; "there" binds the denial to the place, so that it is not made absolutely. A joining follows that says the particle of negation again, so the two things denied are distinct; bareness, in ʿ-r-y, is a thing standing forth with nothing to cover it. So the first is a hollowness in the inside and the second an exposure on the surface, the first lifted by food and the second by clothing. They form one pair, not two denials standing apart, and the verse after it gives a second pair upon its shape: a lack in the hollow, then an exposure on the surface.
﴾ Il t'est acquis, là, de n'avoir pas faim, et de n'être pas nu. ﴿
