﴾ laughing open, taking on the news that spreads over the skin (mustabshira). ﴿
Two descriptions with no wāw between them. The second is not joined to the first, which would make them two; they follow one another and become one description in two motions.
And ḍ-ḥ-k is a parting that pushes through and comes out clean, then breaks off and slips free, burst after burst. From it, the earth is said to ḍaḥikat with plants when it split open and they showed. So laughter, in its root, is a splitting that lets what is behind it appear, not a sound that is produced.
And it is the narrowest place in a face: a mouth that parts. A whole verse begins at a small opening in a face.
And b-sh-r is an appearing that spreads over the living surface and stretches along it. From it, the bashara is the outer skin that announces what is inside, reddening and paling before its owner has spoken. And bushrā, good news, is a report read off the skin before it is said with a tongue.
Mustabshira is on the tenth form, and here it is a becoming: the faces have come to hold a good news standing in them. This is not a seeking of news still awaited; it is a state settled in.
So the two descriptions widen in area: a parting at one place, then a spreading across the whole surface. And both are active participles, as musfira was before them. Three descriptions in a row, and in every one of them the face is the doer.
Two descriptions with no wāw between them, so they are two motions of one description. Ḍāḥika, from ḍ-ḥ-k: a parting that comes out clean and then breaks off and slips free, whence the earth's ḍaḥik with plants when it split open, so laughter is a split that lets what lies behind it show. Mustabshira, from b-sh-r: an appearing that spreads over the living surface and stretches along it, whence the bashara that announces what is within and the bushrā that is read off it. And it stands on the tenth form for becoming, not for seeking. So the motion widens: a mouth that parts, then a skin the news spreads across. Three descriptions in a row from musfira to here, and in all of them the face is doer and not done-to.
The root ties the news to the skin before any tongue is involved. A face that has heard something good is already the report of it.
