﴾ You are only one who drives the warning through (mundhir) to whoever holds it in awe. ﴿
Innamā is a particle of emphasis onto which mā has come and stopped it from governing. What arises from that stopping is restriction: the description is affirmed of the one who bears it and everything else is denied of him.
And this restriction comes right after a restriction. The verse before it confined the ending to one side by fronting the predicate; this one confines the office to one description by an explicit particle. Two restrictions side by side, facing opposite ways: what is not yours has had its place fixed, and what is yours has had its limit fixed.
And anta, "you," comes back. Two verses earlier it stood inside a question, ﴿فِيمَ أَنتَ﴾, "in what are you"; here it stands inside a restricted answer. The same pronoun: first asked about its standing, then set in it.
The root n-dh-r is a sharp piercing that breaks out from within and runs on as a trace. From it comes the binding vow, a piercing that goes into the one who makes it and does not come back. When the hamza of the causative pattern enters upon that piercing, it carries it out to someone else, and the piercing becomes a warning.
Mundhir is an active participle in annexation, and the annexation sets a limit on the office a second time: it is not said that he is a warner and then left there; he is joined to the ones in whom his warning lands. A limit by the particle upon the description, and a limit by the annexation upon its site.
A piercing works only on what admits piercing. A sharp cry reaches the depth where it finds a passage, and rebounds off what is closed. And the verse does not say that others are not warned; it says that he is the warner of these. An office is named by the one it lands in.
Kh-sh-y is a piercing that spreads gently through a being and fills it. It is not the same as fear: this awe knows what it is in awe of, and so is a knowing before it is a trembling.
The root is a pillar of this Surah. It came first as the goal of a guidance offered, ﴿وَأَهْدِيَكَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ فَتَخْشَىٰ﴾, "and that I guide you to your Lord, so that you come to hold Him in awe." Then it came as the condition on a lesson taken, ﴿إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَعِبْرَةً لِّمَن يَخْشَىٰ﴾, "in that there is a crossing-over for whoever holds in awe." In both places the verb stands absolute with no object at all.
Here alone a pronoun attaches to it. The awe that had been a state with no named site now has, at the Surah's end, something it hangs on, and that something is the very thing whose hour was asked about. One group asked after it; another holds it in awe.
A particle of emphasis stopped from governing by mā, and out of that stopping comes restriction: the description affirmed, everything else denied. It follows a restriction: the ending confined to one side by fronting, then the office confined to one description by an explicit particle. Anta is the pronoun that was asked about its standing two verses back, and is now set in it. Mundhir, from n-dh-r, is a sharp piercing that breaks out from within and runs on as a trace, the causative hamza carrying that piercing out to someone else; then the annexation limits its site as the particle limited its description. Yakhshāhā, from kh-sh-y, is a piercing that spreads gently through a being and fills it, out of knowledge of what is held in awe. The verse sets two piercings in one line: one carried from outside inward, and one spreading within that receives it. The second root had come twice in this Surah with no object at all, and comes here for the first time with a pronoun attached: what the awe is in awe of is named at the Surah's end, and it is the same thing whose hour was asked about at the head of this passage.
